Mountains to Molehills

Our president keeps insisting that the Islamic state terrorists have twisted teachings of Islam. He is doing some twisting of his own. He recently hosted the" Summit on Countering Violent Extremism." His main point was that the Quran says whoever kills an innocent; it is as if he has killed all of mankind. He also used the same personal rendering of the Quran in Cairo in 2009 when he spoke to the Muslims. The Quranic verse the president quotes — 5:32 — actually condones killing those who "murder" Muslims, "wage war against Allah" or spread "mischief in the land."  Mischief is defined as "treason against Allah," and the very next verse — 5:33 — calls for guilty infidels to be beheaded. All of this Obama glosses over all of this in his version.  Then there is a another key section which is omitted which goes on to say, "(I)f anyone slew a person — unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land — it would be as if he slew the whole people. And if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people. Then although there came to them our Messengers with clear signs, yet, even after that, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land." And "Whoever killed a human being — except as punishment for murder or other villainy in the land — shall be regarded as having killed all mankind.' Sadly, the clause starting with 'except' can be deployed by militant Muslims to fuel their jihads."  Amazingly Obama asserts "It's a lie that the Islamist enemy is getting its ideas from Islam.”  He says that while lying by omission about the scriptural source of those ideas. Finally, as an officer in the Marine Corps we were trained to know everything about our enemy. It is becoming outright dangerous that our commander- in- chief will not give full recognition to this clear and present danger.
