These frozen limeade coolers are easy to make, refreshing, and the perfect way to cool off on a hot day. Loved by adults and kids alike!
Is summer really over? These frozen limeade coolers are a refreshing reminder of warm weather, and perfect for a mid-afternoon cool down when it's still warm during the day.
We woke up this morning to cool air. It always feels like a miracle when the humidity in Charleston breaks. Just when you think it will never end, and you're going to be sweating profusely long into December while you watch all your friends on social media in their snuggly sweaters and warm drinks, it happens.
You open the door in the morning and there's a rush of cool air. You breathe in a sigh of relief, and go grab a sweatshirt.
You can't be fooled, though - morning and evenings come first, but the middle of the day will still be hot as hell. And when that happens, you might need a way to cool off again. Enter these simple AF frozen limeades.
What goes in frozen limeade?
For these frozen limeades, you need 4 simple ingredients:
- Coconut water, frozen into cubes
- seltzer water
- lime juice
- agave
I try as much as possible to avoid recipes that require preparation ahead of time. I always hate when I go to a recipe and I can't make it right then because I had to be soaking my cashews for the last 24 hours.
However, if you're going to make a frozen drink, you need ice. And trust me when I tell you you want your ice to be coconut water instead of regular water. Just trust me.
Is agave paleo?
In short, no. But here are a couple of good pieces of information:
- You need a way smaller quantity of agave than other sweeteners because it has such a high fructose content
- It doesn't spike insulin levels like refined sugars because it has a lower glucose level
- All sweeteners are processed
We use agave in a very limited capacity, and one bottle will last us 6 months or more. It's got a neutral flavor, so it's perfect for these Classic Lime Margaritas, and also for these frozen limeades here!
How to Make a Frozen Limeade
Ok, so yes - you have to pour your can of coconut water into an ice cube tray and freeze it before you can make these. The first time you make it, you'll have to wait for the ice to freeze.
Here's my hack - when you make them, and you empty the ice cube tray into the blender, just refill it and put it back. It's ready to go for the next time!
To make these dead simple drinks, combine the frozen coconut water ice cubes, the seltzer, the lime juice, and the agave in a blender. Blend, and serve with slices of lime to garnish.
Ahhhhh.
What can I serve these frozen limeades with?
Well, since you asked...
Some of my recommendations and things I love these with are Mexican based. I think of them almost like a virgin margarita/pina colada of sorts, right? Try them with my Beef Taco Casserole or my Burrito Bowls. Yum.
What do you enjoy them with?
Can I add alcohol?
Of course. These are non-alcoholic as-is, but you could certainly add a splash of liquor. I'd recommend rum or vodka! You could add tequila, but if you're going to do that, why not just make a classic margarita? Just sayin'.
