Often times, pumpkin recipes rely on lots of gluten and sugar. Here are 25 delicious pumpkin recipes that keep it paleo, so you can enjoy the pumpkin craze while staying on track!
Gah, aren't you guys sick of pumpkin recipes at this point? Yeah, me neither. I decided what we really need is a good solid list of paleo pumpkin recipes!
There's really only one season that pumpkin feels right, and that's in the fall. The temperature starts to cool, there's a bit of a crispness to the air, and you need a sweatshirt early in the morning and after the sun goes down.
For most people, they experience this sometime around September. Here in Charleston, SC, it took us until November to catch up with fall everywhere else. It's been 80° during the day until just a few weeks ago, and making pumpkin recipes just didn't feel seasonally appropriate when I was still in shorts and t-shirts.
Don't get me wrong, I did try - I made these Pumpkin Cupcakes (which are also in the list below) and I enjoyed every bite of them. But now that it's cooled down a bit, I'm all in and ready to pumpkinallthethings.
I love a good pumpkin pie (and I've included a fantastic paleo one in this roundup!) but sometimes pumpkin pie just feels...tired.
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, here's a list of 25 other ways to include pumpkin in your menu, both sweet and savory. Most pumpkin roundups (or pumpkin recipes in general) tend towards the sweets or the desserts.
I've definitely included a few of those here, but I've also included a number of savory pumpkin soups, stews, granolas and more that change it up a little bit. No matter what your pumpkin taste buds, there's sure to be something here for you.
Paleo Pumpkin Bars from What Molly Made
That icing, tho. I just want to sink my teeth into that icing. Forget that it'll give me 16 cavities, we can deal with that part later. These pumpkin bars with that creamy icing are everything.
Paleo Pumpkin Muffins from Jay's Baking Me Crazy
Muffins are one of those things that I have a tendency to miss on paleo, but that I find easy enough to make. I
t's usually when we didn't make it through all of our bananas before they went bad, and I turn them into banana bread muffins, but these pumpkin muffins are speaking to me. Or maybe its the chocolate chips.
Either way. Nom.
Pumpkin Chia Pudding from Hungry By Nature
I don't make chia pudding nearly as much as I should. Chia seeds pack such a powerful healthy punch, and most chia puddings require no cooking whatsoever, which is my kind of easy recipe!
This pumpkin chia pudding looks like it could be breakfast...or dessert. Also my kind of recipe.
No-Bake Pumpkin Truffles from The Loopy Wisk
No bake, for the win, again!
This recipe is so easy. It calls for an ice cream scoop to make the truffles, which seems like they might come out a tad large, but I bet you could either chill the dough and roll them into balls or use a cookie scoop like this one to get that small truffle shape.
Either way, they're pumpkin and chocolate - you can't go wrong!
Curried Pumpkin Coconut Soup from Everyday Easy Eats
Pumpkin recipes don't have to be all sweets, all the time. This curried pumpkin coconut soup mixes it up a little bit and brings some varying pumpkin flavors to the table.
And while pumpkin and chocolate are a match made in heaven, I'd argue that pumpkin and curry come up a close second.
One Bowl Fudgy Pumpkin Paleo Brownies from Ambitious Kitchen
The only thing better than no-bake is one-bowl, amiright?
It's one of my favorite features of paleo baked goods - there's less true baking chemistry involved, so it's easy to throw everything together in one bowl, mix it up, and call it good.
This pumpkin in these brownies is mild, and the rich chocolate flavor will be the thing you remember.
Turkey Pumpkin Chili from Paleo Scaleo
You won't taste the pumpkin at all - it just adds a thickness to the chili that I love. Oh, and did I mention I just updated the recipe with Instant Pot instructions, so now you can make your chili hands off? Grab it here.
Paleo Pumpkin Pie from Against All Grain
I know, pumpkin pie is so basic. Sometimes with pumpkin, though, what you want is basic.
And if you want a grain-free, dairy-free, refined sugar free pumpkin pie, this is the one. I've made it multiple times and it always comes out great - and fools anyone who eats it.
They never know it's paleo!
Roasted Garlic Pumpkin Hummus from Savory Lotus
Instead of pumpkin at the end of the meal, how about at the beginning as a snack? This pumpkin hummus dip combines with garlic for a more savory than sweet option. Yum!
Savory Pumpkin Dip from Meatified
Another dip option. Not only does this pumpkin dip take a break from the desserts and sweets usually associated with pumpkin recipes, but it also includes a sneaky hidden veggie - zucchini!
Pumpkin Snickerdoodles from Wholesomelicious
When it comes to cookies and pumpkin, the pumpkin/chocolate combo can be a bit overdone.
I love the idea of these pumpkin snickerdoodles - you get that great cinnamon cookie flavor, mixed with pumpkin.
Plus they look chewy on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside. Perfection.
Pumpkin Smoothies from Paleo Scaleo
I love this smoothie recipe of mine because it's not overly sweet. It's definitely pumpkin flavored, but doesn't taste like you're drinking pumpkin pie through a straw.
You can also pour the smoothie into popsicle molds and freeze for a cold pumpkin treat!
Pumpkin Pie Energy Bites from Paleo Grubs
I sound like a broken record with my cheerleading for no-bake recipes over here.
These little guys, though, require - you guessed it - no baking, and they are fun, delicious, bite size, and incredibly easy to make.
What more could you ask for?
Paleo Pumpkin Pancakes from Paleo Running Momma
I heart pancakes. Especially paleo ones. Especially pumpkin ones. These meet all my pancake requirements.
Paleo Pumpkin Curry from Fed and Fit
Cassy Joy over at Fed and Fit is seriously the cutest.
AND she's sporting an adorable 30-week preggers bump right now, which reminds me of just a couple of months ago when I was way more comfortable than I am now in my 40-week bump state, just waiting for this little guy to come and join us out here.
Not that any of that has anything to do with pumpkin curry. But this recipe still looks delicious.
Slow Cooker Pumpkin Custard from Simply So Healthy
Think crustless pumpkin pie. Yum.
I personally would probably sub coconut sugar or maple syrup to taste instead of the stevia - I'm not a big stevia fan, as it's usually really hard to get pure and unprocessed, and I feel like it often has a distinct taste to it that I just can't mask.
That being said, to each his own, if you're a stevia fan, go for it!
Rosemary Paleo Pumpkin Bread from Cotter Crunch
Baked good, yes, but also slightly savory. Rosemary and pepitas give this pumpkin bread a much needed overhaul from the standard pumpkin loaf.
Turmeric Pumpkin Soup with Coconut and Lime from Homespun Capers
Curry seems to be the go-to spice when it comes to pumpkin soups and chilis. I love the idea of this twist using turmeric and lime.
Double Pumpkin Pie Granola from Get Inspired Everyday
I love the thought that by eating raw nuts, pumpkin seeds, and coconut flakes seasoned with some spices and maple syrup, you are, in fact, indulging.
Indulging doesn't have to look like a giant ice cream sundae full of sugar and dairy.
Sometimes it just looks like a special healthy treat, packed full of flavors and nutrients, that you wouldn't normally have.
This pumpkin pie granola is a perfect example of that.
Pumpkin Sage Alfredo Carrot Pasta with Crispy Pancetta from Inspiralized
I know, I love me some spiralized veggies. They're so fun to eat, and so easy to make!
The Inspiralizer is the tool used here to make these carrot noodles, and also the feature of the entire blog.
I love the bright, nutrient dense colors of this meal, and the idea of an entire blog dedicated to spiralized vegetables. 😀
Pumpkin Chicken Chili from Heather Christo
I can't decide which thing I'm more excited about - this pumpkin chili recipe, or her incredibly gorgeous blue bowls.
For real, though, this looks delicious. Heads up - the recipe does call for beans, but you can easily leave those out to make it completely paleo, and I doubt you'd miss them!
DIY Pumpkin Pie Spice from Lexi's Clean Kitchen
Being the crazy person that I am, I bought a 16 ounce bag of pumpkin pie spice on Amazon and stored it in a jar in my pantry, which I refill my small jar in the kitchen from periodically.
However, if you're not quite that in need of pumpkin pie spice at all times, you could easily follow this recipe for a DIY mix, using spices you likely already have in your spice cabinet, and use it for your pumpkin recipes.
Dairy Free Pumpkin Spice Coffee Creamer from Running with Spoons
Oh, hey! This recipe calls for cinnamon and nutmeg, but I bet you could just use some of that homemade pumpkin pie spice you made in the last recipe instead.
The tagline for this blog is "...because you can't eat with scissors," which made me laugh out loud and then picture people trying to eat a meal with scissors.
Anyway, sometimes all those PSL's (that's short for Pumpkin Spice Lattes, for those of you not in the know) can get a little overwhelming.
This will let you have your coffee with a touch of pumpkin spice, or however much you choose.
Pumpkin Smash Cocktail by Lexi's Clean Kitchen
I mean, cm'on, it wouldn't be a true Paleo Scaleo roundup if I didn't include a cocktail. Yet another creative use of the pumpkin here by miss Lexi.
And I bet that vanilla bean pumpkin syrup could be used for lots of other recipes, cocktails or not.
