When it comes to easy paleo recipes, ground beef doesn't get enough credit. These seven delicious paleo ground beef recipes will have dinner on the table in no time, and it's sure to be something the whole family will love.
Ground beef is such a versatile ingredient. It can take on so many different flavors, from Asian dishes to Mexican dishes to traditional American dishes. It can pair with cauliflower rice, sweet potatoes, or spaghetti squash.
I always recommend working with grass-fed beef when possible. There are many reasons why this is better for your health, but above all, if you are eating a grain-free diet, you should aim to eat animals that also eat grain-free, yes?
There are many different kinds of ground beef, and not all are created equal. If you're not sure what to use when, you should check out my info post here on the different types of ground beef.
When making these paleo ground beef recipes, you'll find a few different ethnicities. One of the best things about ground beef is that no matter what you're craving, you can usually make a dish to fit, and it can usually be ready in less than an hour, regardless of what it is.
That's a win in my book for sure.
The good news is, they're all paleo-friendly meals, regardless of the ethnicity - so no matter what you're craving, you can find something you'll love.
Asian paleo ground beef recipe tips
When you're working with ground beef for a paleo asian recipe, there's a few ingredients you'll probably see come up pretty regularly:
Cauliflower rice is often substituted in paleo recipes for regular rice as it is a lower carb and lower calorie option than regular rice.
Coconut aminos is often substituted for soy sauce in paleo asian recipes. It provides an almost identical flavor profile while eliminating soy out of the recipe, which is not a paleo-friendly ingredient.
Fish sauce is often used in asian recipes to add a bit of umami. There are different brands of fish sauce, but this Red Boat brand of fish sauce is the only paleo and Whole30 compliant one.
Rice vinegar is made from fermented rice. The result is typically far less acidic and milder than pure distilled white vinegar.
The two I've included here are my Ground Beef and Green Beans and my Korean Bulgogi Bowls.
Ground beef and green beans is so easy - roast your veggies, cook your beef over medium-high heat in a large skillet, add your sauce, add your veggies - dinner is done. It uses simple ingredients and comes together with a great flavor and a spice level that can be adjusted to your liking. This is a delicious recipe for sure.
Beef bulgogi bowls, also known as a korean beef bowl, are a play off a Hello Fresh recipe we had one time. Not an original recipe, but I simplified, converted to paleo, and we make these ALL THE TIME in our house now. We love topping them with green onions and sesame seeds for a little crunch.
Mexican ground beef recipe tips
Is there a better match than Mexican recipes and ground beef? Probably not. I usually start by making my paleo taco meat recipe as a base, and roll from there.
There are SO MANY Mexican inspired paleo ground beef recipes you can make. I've included a couple here, but I also love these Chipotle copycat burrito bowls and the beef burrito meat from this cookbook.
You can adjust spices and sides and combos, but honestly, Mexican is...well, Mexican. Just depends on how you want to consume your Mexican flavors that day!
Here I've included two options:
Beef taco casserole is great for a crowd, and easy to double and turn into a freezer meal. Everything gets stirred together with the salsa and some eggs to hold it together and baked. Top with cilantro and guac or sliced avocado for a fresh twist, and serve with a lime wedge to be squeezed on top just before eating.
The southwestern taco salad is another copycat recipe, from a Trader Joes bagged salad that I loved but was less than healthy. Fresh veggies add crunch, and the creamy avocado dressing counters the taco meat perfectly.
If you're looking for a true taco night, the Siete brand makes an almond flour tortilla that I have found at both Costco and regular grocery stores. I've also found a paleo almond flour tortilla at Trader Joes with their store brand - win!
Siete also makes a great grain free, paleo friendly tortilla chip - this nacho flavor is my favorite!
American ground beef recipe tips
These recipes are where you'll find your more traditional style ground beef uses - meatballs, meatloaf, burgers, and more.
Americans for some reason seem to like to pack their ground beef together instead of cooking it loose and crumbled...?
American ground beef recipes will usually include tomato flavors, and you'll likely see some Italian inspired flavors as well.
My easy paleo meatballs are truly just that. They're more like traditional Italian meatballs, and they pair perfectly with some paleo-friendly tomato sauce over paleo-friendly pasta. I like to use this cassava flour spaghetti by Jovial that I get at Thrive Market, but there are other options out there.
And if you're on Whole30, or trying to keep the carbs down, you can always substitute spaghetti squash or zucchini noodles instead. Both make a great base and still let you twirl the same way you would with noodles - so satisfying.
Just like everything I make, the burger recipe is simple. I like to make a batch of the burgers and keep them in the fridge along with a batch of dressing. Then when I'm ready for lunch, I just pull them out, pop them on top of some greens, drizzle with dressing, and lunch is done.
If you want to dress it up for a dinner, top the burger with some bacon and a fried egg, and serve with some roasted sweet potatoes on the side.
If you're looking for a paleo meatloaf recipe, Paleo Running Momma has a great one here that is also Whole30 friendly!
Another favorite American paleo ground beef recipe is sloppy joes - you can find one over here on Cooking with Jessica. (Name is a coincidence, it's not me!)
Indian ground beef recipe tips
It's not often that you see an Indian dish that includes ground beef, but it does happen. The Indian Hot Balls in this post are one great example.
In India, they believe the cow is a sacred animal, so it's not a common practice to eat beef. That said, there are Indians who do eat beef, and there are a number of ground beef recipes that include beef as the protein.
(They also export beef, but that's another story.)
Indian recipes in general typically contain a lot of spices, so make sure your spice cabinet is fully stocked before diving into any Indian ground beef recipes!
This recipe is a bit more time consuming than the rest, so make sure you read through the whole thing and have everything you need before getting started.
Side dishes for paleo ground beef recipes
Beef in general pairs well with a number of unrefined carbs, or veggies.
My top three favorite pairings for paleo ground beef recipes are cauliflower rice, sweet potatoes, and spaghetti squash. All are versatile enough to hold up to whatever flavor you throw at them.
Confetti spaghetti squash, roasted sweet potatoes or twice baked sweet potatoes, and even mashed cauliflower are great options if you need some ideas!
Substitutes for paleo ground beef recipes
No ground beef? No problem.
There are many other types of ground meat that can be subbed for ground beef. Ground turkey and ground chicken are great options.
Ground pork can be a substitute in some situations, depending on the recipe. It can have a higher fat content than other ground meats, so just be wary of the grease depending on what you're making.
All in all, these paleo diet ground beef recipes are simple, flavorful, and will keep you on track with your health and fitness goals while not compromising on flavor. Enjoy!
